Greetings,
My name is Michael Flinner. I am the content director of www.deathrowinmate.org --- the nexus between human rights & social media. As we climb out of infancy, one of our model facets at DRI is slated to become an Inmate Organ Donor Registry.
You may not be aware of this, but some 2.3 million prisoners are housed in this nation, men and women who believe that the rationale for imprisonment is derived from our responsibility to repay debts to society through rehabilitation, restitution, and punishment for transgression.
Having said this, one might ask, why are people in the free world dying while awaiting organ and tissues, deprived willing donors? States take life, labor, income, and time from the imprisoned, ask them to rehabilitate themselves, yet deny them the opportunity to make the ultimate restitution --- literally, the gift of life, the only act that transcends all others.
For whatever reason --- be it apathy or oversight, a complete lack of programs and national protocol for the willing prisoner to donate living vital organs and tissues to those beneath their own sentences of death, seems to be the "accepted norm". In rare cases, it may be possible to do so for an immediate family member, but bureaucratic impediments are so substantial, that people literally die while awaiting necessary authorization.
Our goal is to create an inmate organ donor registry. I'm a 45 year old former landscape contractor from San Diego now residing on Death Row at San Quentin. Two years ago, I requested to be "typed" in an effort to give a perfect stranger one of my kidneys, but the prison administration simply swept the matter under the rug.
The purpose of this missive is as follows;
A.) Asking for your help in assembling our donor registry
B.) Using out national entries to help us show by strength in numbers, that legislators will be hard-pressed to dismiss inmates representing significant & viable contributors to those in need.
We find it ironic that an entire segment (over 2+million) of the nation's population is deliberately excluded from the roles of the willing. it is almost unbelievable.
My hope is to get together with you and build this registry. I need your help! I guarantee that tens of thousands of prisoners WILL "opt in" voluntarily, we just need to provide them with the means to do so. I want to "turn compassion into action" but to do so, I'm turning to you for guidance and support.
Please contact me at your earliest possible convenience. We'll be gearing up to put this and our new charity (Convicts Against Cancer) online in short order. I encourage your thoughts and hope to hear from you in the days ahead. Is there a number that I can call you at direct/collect? Would you be interested in coming to SQSP to visit over coffee and discuss this matter with me?
Our tech support (Alicia Williams) can be reached at: chaotkya@gmail.com. I can be reached in the mail (but it takes weeks to process into the facility) at the following address.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Wishes,
Michael Flinner #V-30064
