When Between the Bars got restarted, it was suggested that we include a profile page. For weeks, I gave thought to what I might write for a profile page.

I could fill it with vital statistics like: 5'8" tall, brown hair, brown eyes, 165 lbs... But that would sound like a driver's license.

If I were to write that I am the youngest son of Cuban exiles, born in the city of Chelsea, MA in 1963, I love music, literature, nature... it then seems like that I am writing a pen-pal ad.

Bear in mind that this is limited to a single page, so if I list my experiences, education, and occupation (briefly), I have submitted a ré sumé. Besides, all these factual details, including the official version of the crime that put me in prison, can be easily discovered online. However, they only tell you where I have been and what I have done, not who I am. A person is not the sum of experiences and education, but rather what one thinks, feels, and believes as a result of them.

In that sense, my profile is contained in the pages which follow, for they contain what I think, feel, and believe. That is who I am.
