Hello, my name is Mr. Kedrick Trevon Darrough #137735, and I am a 35 year old man that is currently locked up in the Arkansas Department of Corrections on a non-violent drug charge. I am new to the Between The Bars blog, so please bare with me. Since my incarceration (2006) I have did nothing but strive to better myself even though there are always (2) two forces working @ the same time (Good and Evil). So I try to stay out of as much trouble as possible by avoiding all penitentiary politics. I am serving a 90-year sentence in which I have to serve 21½ years of my life before I am eligible for parole. Right now my parole date is January 20th, 2028. I know I made a mistake by hanging around the wrong individuals.

But it won't take me 21½ years of my life to realize that my drug charge carried 10 to 40 years or life. But since I had (1) prior drug charge in California in which I was sent to San Quentin State Prison, I was considered as a second offender which doubled my time. But in 2010 the Arkansas 88th General Assembly passed a Bill "Act 570" which reduced all of the sentencing for all drug charges. The only problem with this law is that it didn't affect all of us that was already in prison. For the past (2) two years we have been pushing to get the legislation to "retroact" the law like the "Fair Sentencing Act of 2010" which President Obama signed that affected all federal inmates sentenced for a non-violent drug charge. We all came together and contacted a lawyer by the name of "Mr. Larry R. Froelich" which he drew up a proposal on our behalf. "Legislative proposal" when the punishment for any given criminal offense has been reduced by legislative act, an inmate convicted of that offense should be eligible for parole based on the maximum sentence allowed under the new law. Many inmates languish for decades in prison under the burden of long sentences that are no longer permitted under the current law, like myself. We are creating a state-wide/nation-wide network to influence the legislators to retroact Act 570. We need all the support we can get right. The Legislative session began on January 14th, 2013, so we don't have much time before they get to our proposal. We have a lot of signatures but we are trying to gather about 800 more to make sure that we have way more than enough.
