I always like to read about the great socialists of
history, among whom we may count Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King is best known for his leadership in the civil rights
movement and his philosophy of nonviolent civil disobedience.

Despite protestations to the contrary, all civil disobedience
is anarchy, because it puts the conscience of the individual
above the authority of the magistrate, and thus subverts
the whole machinery of government.

Dr. King distinguished between just and unjust laws, and
appealed to the higher authority or conscience to justify
his disobedience to unjust laws. He was imprisoned many

Dr. King believed that federal intervention was necessary
to help poor people, provide good jobs and a decent
standard of living to all Americans, including blacks,
Hispanics, Indians, and poor whites, and protect the
human and civil rights of all Americans from the abuses
of state and local governments.

He called for a socialistic policies and argued that capitalism
and individual self-help were inadequate to lift people out
of poverty.

Those who wish to appropriate Dr. King as a conservative
are quite frankly liars.

Dr. King was steeped in the social gospel movement, which
views the betterment of society rather than individual
salvation and private morality as the true concern of

Dr. King was a sinner like anyone else, and he did
plagiarize some academic papers and he was unfaithful
to his wife. Yet that does not detract from the
significance of his accomplishments, except in the eyes
of closet racists who are afraid to admit why they
really hate him.
