Supporting Voting Rights
By Kyle Wolf

I am an army veteran who fought in the Iraq War. I do not feel that anyone should be deprived of the right to vote, even when he or she has been incarcerated.

America was founded on principles like "no taxation without representation" and "rule by consent of the governed." The disenfranchisement of prisoners and parolees make a mockery of those principles.

Voting should not be considered a privilege. It is an expression of the human right to control one's own life and destiny. Even though some people may need to be incarcerated to protect society from harm, we should not be deprived of all human and civil rights.

Sex offenders should not be deprived of rights according to other felons. Most sex offenders are good people who still have a lot to offer.

Please support legislation to extend the franchise to all prisoners and probationers. We all have a stake in the future of this country.
