The Debate Over Gay Marriage
The last two days I have listened on C-Span to Supreme Court Oral Argument on challenges to California's Prop 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act. At issue are the rights of gays to marry.
I am gay and I am disgusted by the views of republicans that my ability to love another man is an "abomination" that is comparable to paedophilia or bestiality. I cannot comprehend how anyone in our society in 2013 could try to argue the position that a large portion of our society should be denied equal rights and equal protection of the laws.
I am a progressive liberal democrat so I cannot claim to be non partisan on this issue but I urge people to listen to the Oral Arguments which are on the Supreme Court's website. The weaknesses in the right wing's arguments and the prejudices of Justice Scalia are self-evident. Those who support discrimination I say to you only this: Shame on You.
