Words and Consequences

"What is government if words have no meaning?"
—Jared Loughner's nonsensical question to Representative Giffords at a 2007 constituents' meeting

A Sense of Senseless Words
THE FIRST BULLET STRIKES GIFFORDS IN the head, tunnels through the left side of her brain and exits. As the woman who would not answer his nonsensical question in 2007 slumps to the pavement, Loughner begins spraying 30 additional rounds into the crowd. Within a few seconds, 18 more people are wounded, six of them mortally.

[poster commentary: Loughner's question is "nonsensical" because he din't use the word "consequences". But if you just blurt out "Words have consequences", well, that's speaking their language. Words can have consequences.]

Not welcome in Arizona
[poster commentary: Too bad!]
In March 2018, Sarah Palin posted a map on her PAC site showing locations of politicians up for re-election whom she felt needed to be replaced. My congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, was targeted, literally, in a rifle sight. I'm sure Palin didn't intend for her symbolism to be taken literally, but nonetheless, Giffords and 18 others were shot yesterday. Six people were killed. Palin did not take down the map until yesterday; after the shooting. Ms. Palin—words have consequences. Your words contributed to the poisoning of the political atmosphere, and your words led to this tragedy. I'm aware you and your family have expressed interest in possibly moving in Arizona in the future. You are now welcome here.
