Thanks so much for the feedback on hashtags! I've been waiting for someone to help me understand this stuff. You helped, but I have some new questions too. I hope you'll see this and follow up. Or if anyone else wants to chime in, please do!
You describe hashtags as ways to search social media and I get that, but won't a search engine like Google still pick the up too? Also, for a hashtag to do anything, does a person have to search for it specifically? For instance, typing into Google #blacklivesmatter instead of just searching for Black Lives Matter? If so, then it seems that making a unique hashtag right here would be useless, right? Like I put #Haraszewski in my other post hoping it would register if anyone searched my name in any way, but, for sure, no one will ever actually type in #Haraszewski, so it's a waste of time to even try, if I'm understanding correctly. True? Finally, side question: will someone list all of the active search engines today? I know there's Google, Bing, and Yahoo! (still?), but a lot of the old ones are gone, I think (Ask Jeeves, Momma, Duck Duck Go). I'm 100% there are new small ones now like some that do no-cookie anonymous searching, etc. I'd like to know all the sites anyone knows of please.
