There are a myriad of talented conscious writers (and artists here on death row who are knowledgeable and articulate in areas of law history, social and political issues. Many have personal experiences with prison life, the streets, poverty, violence, and our very broken judicial system-- individuals with relevent and insightful things to say. The Papyrus Collective is a kind of resource --- a "group" structure for inmate writers and artists who are interested in pursuing the publiction and promotion of their work, those who wish to chronical significant stories and exeriences in their lives.
The Papyrus Collective/DRI "Forum" is an important collaboration and beginning for this collective, and for our contrubuting writers. To have this outlet through which we can become vocal and visible with our work as well as our experiences, but more importantly, to interact with those of you out there while at the same time, sharing with friends and families of inmates who are here on San Quentin's Death Row---developing the sort of dialogue that evokes meaningful reactions and commentary from you.
We hope that this forum will motivate other inmates to pick up a pen and begin writing about hwaht moves them, sharing important things of interest with our readers as well as their personal stories of struggle and achievement. Expect a variety of contributors to join the forum over the follwing months and to bring them their stories, knowledge and perspectives.
