Racial Equality...

Racial Equality...

Do you know about your heritage?
Does society even care?
From the many beautiful shades of black,
To the texture of our hair...
What about the great things our forefathers achieved,
But done with the blood of our people...
We've came a long way from slavery,
But in the eyes of others, we're still not equal
And we paid the price for freedom,
But we still carry the burden & pain...
They took the shackles off our legs & wrists
And placed them on our brains...
In 1890 William Purvis made improvements to the fountain pen,
Do you know who built the first clock?
Well, I do... a gifted brother named Ben,
Benjamin Banneker to be exact...
Just don't take my word for it, do your own research
And gather all the facts.
Without a brother named Jan Matzeliger,
We probably wouldn't have shoes to wear...
In 1883 he built the first successful shoe lasting machine,
But you probably don't even care.
Come black people, we are descendants of kings & queens,
So let's choose to beam with pride...
I'll stand & fight for what I believe in.
What will you do? Well, I know I refused to be denied...
We need to wake up, mind wise, open your mind's eye...
Let's stop degrading our women,
Knowledge, wisdom, motivation, love & trust...
Is what we need to place up in them!
But first we must educate ourselves...
As we struggle and fight to overcome poverty,
Just think about our pioneers and look at your peers...
As I shed two tears of love and pain,
For racial equality...
