My Desert Heart
12-11-13

The Bible states in Genesis, chapter two, that G-d fashioned a woman from Adam's rib because He saw man was not suitable to be alone. From that fact, I now realize why my heart yearns for a female friend, companion, correspondent, or life partner. Being separated from the opposite sex allows you to understand how valuable a woman really is...well at least to me.

Adam was so well pleased with the delight of his heart in his newly found companion, that he immediately spoke a poem which states: "this is bone of my bone, And flesh of my flesh; she shall be called a Woman, because she was taken out of man." (Genesis 2:23). No wonder men and women are overloaded with joyous emotions when they meet someone new who sparks their interest. Even if the man or woman is not looking for anything serious, the number scale of their compatiability determines the outcome of their relationship, because we were designed to be unified with a companion. Most "perfect" relationships happen by accident. Rarely are they found when you're pursuing Mr./Mrs. Right. But what do you do when you want to be in love...when you want to be married...when you're tired of being alone...when you question yourself, wondering if you'll ever find love?

That's when the faith of prayer and belief in G-d's plan for your life comes into play. It is easy for me to express to myself and scribble it down on paper, but it's very difficult to exercise from prison, which is probably the lonelinest emotional environment on Earth. No exasperation! When you experience idle time in prison, all you fantasize about is the "what if's"...well, at least I do. And all my "what if's" consist of my past love affairs.

My love for G-d is so strong that a woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that I must seek Him first...to find her. My future companion is all that can satisfy the mute, irrepressible longing I carry inside me. My life shall continue to feel strangely deficient until my true love is discovered. Only then will I feel the jubilation Adam felt when he received Eve from G-d. Only then will my desert heart bloom.

The sad part is, being in prison is such a judgemental obstacle by society, especially the opposite sex, that I'll never meet a woman who would be willing to give me a chance...a chance at friendship...because relationships are bonded by the foundation of friendship.

If this should be any consolation, love problems have been and are continually felt by persons all over the globe. Just read any love poem from ancient Rome, or a play by Shakespeare; or listen to a song by Bob Dylan. You're not alone! Stay strong, bro! G-d will determine whether or not you will find a suitable soul-mate on this Earth; perhaps your most perfect companion, who will bring you the same happiness that Adam had, lies not in this life, but in the afterlife. Or maybe you'll find her tomorrow. Never give up! As a last suggestion, perhaps that aching in your heart is not for a woman, although such a longing for the opposite sex may be a part of it; perhaps it's a longing for a deeper connection with G-d through Christ. It has at least satisfied me, as well as the saints and many others throughout history. Jesus understands us better than we do ourselves, and His love fills up the gaps in the heart. It actively works in our lives; as Kierkegaard contemplated,
“To the Christian love is the works of love. To say that love is a feeling or anything of the kind is really an un-Christian conception of love. That is the aesthetic definition and therefore fits the erotic and everything of that nature. But to the Christian love is the works of love. Christ’s love was not an inner feeling, a full heart and what not, it was the work of love which was his life."
Look for that woman who will join her soul with yours; if your soul should be complete with Christ, rejoice in that fact. Keep writing!
Peace,
