I do most of my painting from photos, books magazines, newspapers. I see a photo I think I want to paint it is not the photo I want to paint but the subject matter. The end painting may look nothing like the photo. I explore I draw the subject Il see in my mind eye using my own aesthalic style. I play with lines, shape and values using my own ideas of color and texture. I was inspired to do a painting from a photo of old Sacramento last week when I showed it to a friend he said it looked nothing like the photo. I could only smile - why would I paint a picture that I already had no. I make a lot of changes the biggest being the tourist with cartians became a homeless person pushing a shopping cart. I put graffiti on the retainer wall they said skidrow below the old Sacramento region. The only difference in the new old Sacramento now and when it was skidrow is the priced drinks unless you're locked up.

I got you message sis. I'm doing fine, don't put address and phone number on the page. I hope I'm able to talk to you before you got this message I'm worried about Aunt Alice. I'll write in a few days.

Love your big brother Steve

I'm going to try to call you Sunday while your visiting with aunt Alice

Happy Mother's Day
