Changes

When you see me, the image I give you is a shell from my past life. I sport two teardrops on my eye representing the two people who were injured in my crime. The other eye has three dots that represent "mi vida loca." My bottom lip says "chico." My body matches my face. Tattoos are okay, but they scream the person I used to be in the world.

I did a lot of things I regret. I've done the club scene. I've sold drugs. I lived the life that I felt at the time was fun and right for me. I smoked weed on a daily basis. I never went without it and my kids were well taken care of. Now all I can do is shake my head 'cause, in the end, it didn't get me anywhere! My character was flawed. The morals and values that I was raised with were buried. Money, hoes, and cars... Huh, there's more to life than the expected.

It's hard to live a crooked life. Selling dope means dodging the law. Workin' under the table. Looking over your shoulder. Even your best homie will put a ski mask on and kick your door in to claim your fame. Then smile in your face and never take the blame! So you stay with your pistol cocked trusting no one. Every day is a struggle.

So why not choose to change? Being straight, going to school. Working is hard but, in the end, it benefits you. Change the character you have the streets gave you. The typical ghetto person intelligence is limited. So be a real G. You have to contain knowledge, wisdom, and change. The streets offer you NOTHING!

If you have the heart to stand up for your hood or your set or your homies, change that energy to stand up for what is right: family, God, your country. It goes deeper than what a narrow-minded person sees. Expand and seek beyond. Blinded by the stupidity...

I was there too. So many of us get into wrecks, just to make the same mistake and crash again! Every time life is in two pieces, you fall back but come back and TKO and overpower the situation. Which is recognizing the problem. Learning from it. Then expect it.

A lot of times we can't change the condition, but we're in a position to handle it. The cards that were dealt in life are different. All we can do is make a difference AKA change our character for the better.

Stay blessed...

It was nice to see that you were able to reconnect with your son here. Regarding what you wrote about struggling, I hope that you haven't given up.
