"THE THING'S I SEE"

Well it was an interesting two weeks staying at RMC the prison hospital. I seen a lot of things that I just did not like. My first two days I spent in a hospital room/cell on the west side where the men were suffering from terminal illnesses. Right across from my room was a big room that held eight inmates, and there was an old black man in the first bed. About 6:30 PM I heard a commotion, I went up to the door and looked out the window to see this nurse or assistant standing over the old man. She was saying something to him, for which I couldn't hear, and she slapped him in the side of the head. I think he had defecated on himself, and they were trying to clean him up.
I was moved to two different cells over the course of them two weeks. I only got three showers in two weeks. Which is a violation of policy and procedures. And there was absolutely no recreation or break from that cell. And it didn't meet any requirements of hospital sanitation. The first cell had some food or feces that was up on the light. There was dirt and grime all under the toilet and down where the wall meets the floor and by the footlockers of all three cells. Bottom line is it was unsanitary.
The last week I was there, I believe it was Tuesday, I was standing at the window looking outside, watching the inmates some old and in wheelchairs and walkers line up at the pharmacy to get their medication, it was about 1:30 PM and it started to rain. Well some attempted to go under the over hang to get out of the rain. And the officer said something and pointed back to the spot they were lined up at, and the men went and stood back in the rain. And at one point it was pouring down rain. So their having to stand there in that. They looked so pitiful, and I felt so bad for them. That was just totally uncalled for. There was absolutely no reason to degrade a human being and make them stand out there like that. Its this type of stuff that motivates me to bring about change. And think about this, I'm not standing there all the time watching, so imagine all the abuse that I'm not getting to see.
Yesterday Wednesday October 9, 2019 I went back to RMC for physical therapy. When I got there I was listening to an inmate who said, that he had just witnessed a captain assault an inmate right there in that room. The captain was trying to impress a female officer. I also spoke with an inmate from FSP, who said he had gotten assaulted the night before over at FSP by a captain Beasly. I asked him if he wanted me to report it, he said' " No man I go home in three months, and I don't need the trouble." Which makes no since to me, but that's his logic. But its also that illogical ideology that is the problem. For silence is agreement. If you disagree with something then you bring it to light and try to change it. If I see abuse, I'm going to write about it, if I hear about abuse, I'm going to write about it.
I was speaking with another inmate, we were talking about grievances, he said its getting to cold to file, for if you file on them, then they put you on strip cell. Which I already knew, yes they try to torture inmates into compliance by placing inmates on strip cell. Where you've got no mattress, blanket or anything. And it is a good torture device in the winter months. I've experienced it first hand in 2011-12. And its something that needs to be stopped. And something I'm going to work towards stopping.
I speak with these men some who look like they belong in a Nazi concentration camp. Heads shaved, clothes stained and filthy looking and defeat written all over their faces. Yes this is a place of inhumane treatment. Where dignity is lost to the nightmarish existence of humanity! And change is most certainly needed. Which is why I do what I do. Yes I am my brothers keeper. Please stand up and speak out for those who fear to speak for themselves.
