“UCI'S RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR COVID-19"

Staff have been touching not only our clothes and property with contaminated gloves, but
touching us as well. And even touching our facemask when we go out for shaves and haircuts.
A mask that then goes back over your nose and mouth. Yes all of this contacted without
changing gloves. So | filed informal grievance 213-2004-0154 and then formal grievance
#2005-213-015 where they state

"THESE GLOVES ARE CHANGE PERIODICALLY, BUT THE DEMANDING SCHEDULE
NECESSARY IN ORDER TO SATISFY ALL REQUIREMENTS,OF POLICY AND PROCEDURE
FOR OUT OF CELL ACTIVITY, FEEDING PROCEDURES, SHOWER PROCEDURES, CALL
OUTS, SECURITY ACTIVITIES LIKE CELL SEARCHES ECT., MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR
THEM TO CHANGE GLOVES EVERY TIME THEY TOUCH SOMEONE OR SOMETHING."
The grievance was denied.

This acknowledges that their not following covid-19 guidelines and protecting us in the manner
for which we should be protected. Their putting us at risk of not only covid-19, but SARS,
MRSA, and other bacteria and viral infections. When we exit the cell, they reach down and grab
on to our arm, at the bicep elbow area, with what they call a custodial touch. This is the area
that your instructed to cough into, but if you have a rash or infection, staff is unable to see small
cuts or scrapes and could easily be transferring blood droplets from one inmate to the next with
these contaminated gloves.

They say this custodial touch is for our safety from falling. | fell last month, it didn't stop me from
falling nor did it slow me down. | was 235 pounds moving forward, that officer might have been
160 pounds. He let go, and I'm glad he did. Cause had he not let go, he would have landed on
top of me. But I"ve witnessed several inmates fall coming from the shower, and in every case
the officer let go. So this custodial touch, is as useless as these contaminated gloves are from
protecting us from covid-19 and other bacteria and viruses. Something needs to change, and
I'm trying to change it. Wish me luck, for | need it.
