Hi Y! Um... did I spell that right? :P
Very cool to get this comment from you - thanks so much! But, one question... what do you mean, you're "responding to this years late"? Don't you mean DECADES? :) Well, one decade, anyway. Or 12 years to be a little more precise. How nutty... my first posts here were TWELVE YEARS AGO! How can that even be? Anyway, so now I'm super curious - you said you first saw another post where I mentioned the intro. Which post was that? I'm a little bummed the intro is so buried for new writers, but I also recall I wrote 2 intros, somehow? I forget the details now, but I'm glad you get to start at the start, however you got there. :) I hope more ppl will check out the early posts, and the intro you saw. It helps to get a feel for the blogger you're reading, right? Maybe it's time I put up a new "intro", as a current post. I do have newer pcs now. Hmm.
Yeah, wow, similar interests for sure! I think if I were doing it today I'd focus on neuroscience, too. My math psych area was cognitive psychology, and it wasn't until after I read Ray Kurzweil's The Singularity is Near and How to Create a Mind that I really came to recognize the value of neuroscience, specifically. Since then I've read some of Laurence Tancredi's work (do you know of him?) and though I'm not a huge fan of him or his perspective, it grew my interest in neuroscience even more. I suppose my main interest (in these areas) now is evolutionary psychology. You have any thoughts on that? Oh, you asked if I have any advice for you on your similar-interest / pre-med journey? Hmm... lol, idk, am I the one to be asking for advice? I mean, sure, I've clearly gone on to be a brilliant supernova of success and all, but still. ;P So, as you may have surmised, I didn't graduate, though I was just one semester from earning 2 concurrent BA's. Figured I'd try a different institution out. Prolly a bad choice, in hindsight. :) My cousin went on to finish med school (D.O. I believe, now a practicing psychiatrist, though I think a more physical form of brain science was his original goal). He's prolly the better choice for advice. But if you ever wanna move toward anarchist social activism, I'm definitely your guy, lol.
Interesting question you raised... can commenters attach pics? I really don't know, but I've never hears of it being done so I suspect not? Maybe send a question to the site operator, Charlie. He's a really helpful and conscientious dude, as far as I can tell. Always super responsive to me, and seems to be toward others. I'm sure he'd explain how, if it's possible.
I hope you'll comment back. I'd love to chat a bit. Where are you at in your schooling now? Just starting, almost done? What led you to this area, and... philosophy!? That's much more my passion than psychology. Do you have any favorite thinkers / writers? Schools of thought? I find myself drawn toward the existentialists, but I love to dig into Nietzsche (easy to have so much of him, and yet...). If I have a single fave philosophical writer, maybe Bertrand Russell? He seems, grounded, but maybe I'm just smitten by the dry wit. Reminds me of my dad?
Take care, Y.
Sincerely, Dymitri
