Re: Allied Media: Nation Inside.
Communication Strategies Against Mass Incarceration.
Human Rights Issues.
Salubrious.
1.) What are the most pressing issues that the focus should be on?
(A) Political & Legal: Assistance to effectuate change:
(B) We need People in society to become involved & help in (1) presenting letter campaigns to law makers to change rules of the prison & laws. (2) We need skillful attorneys & paralegals to help litigate class issues statewide & nationally. Issues like human rights torture claims, long-term segregation/administrative confinement.
2.) How can organizations working to end mass incarceration do better?
(A) Two things most importantly and they have to complement each other. (1) Put pressure on human rights signatories to address H.R.'s issues in U.S. Prisons. (2) Find people who believe in prison reform and support them as candidates in elections. (3) How can we truly change the system if pro-prison minded people are the only ones running & getting elected to offices. (4) We need to change the system inside/out, which includes the prisoners and the politicians (5) filing H.R. (Human Rights) lawsuits on mass incarceration (mass incar.)
3.) What support do you need that you are not currently getting?
(A) As a writer, and pro se litigator/pro se jailhouse lawyer in a supermax prison with bad penmanship, I need assistance typing up cogent/legible legal documents, as a lot of times the courts give bad rulings due to the fact they don't read bad handwriting and won't waste their time reading the plaintiff documents, taking everything the defendant prison officials say as true & correct.
Also, I can possibly get some of my stories, essays, and social critiques etc. published. Typing assistance will mean success for me. Make my voice more voluminous.
4.) Changes to the law that need to be advocated?
(A) Repeal or modifications to the PLRA (Prisoners Litigation Reform Act). Specifically sections that prevent prisoners from being able to be compensated when constitutional violations have been proven & won! Unless you can also show an actual injury. See law title 42 U.S.C § 1997 e(e).
(B) Also, human rights standards to be universally applicable to U.S. prisoners. As of right now, the U.S. Const. standard is applied and that standard has been diluted so much that torture and other inhumane activity officials do is accepted, while the U.S. clamor around the world human rights violation standards they themselves do not adhere to when it comes to U.S.. prisoners.
5.) HOW CAN WE USE MEDIA TO ADVANCE THESE CAUSES?
(A) Dedicate a site on the web to right prisoners' rights abuse & torture, with proof in documents & video. (B) Establish an email/letter petition, where supporters can log on and put their names on generic email/letter petition that will go straight to prison officials, governors, politicians, U.N. and others. We seek to educate or move.
(C) Mass/block Twitter outputs for very sensitive incidents to arouse support and First Amendment action protect etc.
(D) Expose the corruption. Site dedicated to expose cover-ups, judicial collusions.
(E) A website dedicated to whistle-blowing for correctional staff. With some kind of tangible incentive so they will come forth with information on cover-ups, corruptions & abuse/torture etc.
(F) Investigative journalism: News media to investigate prison torture/abuse just like they do all the stories. We need reporters, professional/lay-reporters to interview guards etc. especially ex-employees to get the truth and data on cover-ups and corruption, abuse, etc.
Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation that you are requesting our opinions, as opposed to treating us like animals who need others to PETA us. And that you have the compassion to extend your hand to help people, much of society and family have cast away. Asante Sana.
Sincerely,
Prince Atum-Ra Uhuru Mutawakkil
