Dear Reader,

There comes a time in our life when things become an issue where the ongoing abuse of Human Rights are concerned.

Here in the Texas Prison System you'll see the abuse every day. It all starts off with a disciplinary case and then injustice happens because the officers are always right and the inmate is wrong. Outcome: Guilty every time they run a hearing.

Then, there comes the issue concerning your food. Every time the State gets their budget cut, they cut out some of our food. Our trays are not properly served according to the menu plan that has been laid out and the portions got smaller. They always claim that it meets or exceeds the daily calorie count.

Now, we have the issue that the inmates themselves (particularly the kitchen workers) try to exercise authority over other inmates by telling us what we are going to get or not get and serving us these small portions of food so that they can have more to eat or sell.

Finally, these officers tend to use not feeding us as a consequence and are usually backed up by the Sgt., Lt., Capt., or Major and do it on a constant basis. Our complaints are never heard within these walls and always retaliate against us for using the grievance system.

Slowly but surely it's becoming a full circle where this system will some day become like it was in the case of Ruiz vs. Estelle if it's not stopped.

Respectfully submitted,

Lorenzo Gomez
