California could release 1,000 prisoners to ease overcrowding

On August 2, 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court denied CA petition to stay lower federal courts order to reduce prison population by 10,000.

Gov. Jerry Brown (D. CA) unsuccessfully argued the state needed more time to relocate prisoners. Now would present a public danger.

Moreover, 36,000 CA prisoners, with celebrities' support, had been on a hunger strike protesting prison conditions.
