Hey, CJP! Thanks a lot 4 responding to the posting. I do apologize 4 taking so long 2 post a response. A letter is mailed to me with responses. It was mailed "2 weeks & 2 days" after u responded. I had some trouble right after I received it. I wound-up being moved 2 another yard - I'm actually in the Hole now. But I'm grateful that I finally got my property. Now I'm ready 2 settle in & get some ideas out. Thanks 4 yr patience.

You said u don't think it's realistic that we could have I-Pods in prison. Well, "JT", who responded right after u, says that some inmates already have I-Pods. So I'm glad that it's in process somewhere. So we know that it can be done. Also, I saw an advertisement for MP3 players that were supposed 2 be available 2 us in the coming quarter. But it never manifested. That was almost 2 yrs. ago. Here in California we get our care packages thru vendors - just a few that are handpicked by the CDCR - who already know all the rules 4 each individual prison. We get our T.V.'s, radios, shoes, CDs, clothes, coffee & food etc, under tight guidelines.

When an inmate receives an appliance his name is engraved on it, along with his prison ID number. I'm saying that in this same way we could purchase an I-Pod from a vendor, that is already modified for us inmates. For example: it would only download & store music files, or single songs. It would have no recording mic, or camera, or video screen or capability, etc. And the only person that would ever go on the internet would be the C/O assigned 2 download music 4 us.

I agree with u that a lot of folks believe prison should still be only 4 punishment, not rehabilitation. I believe only some aspects of our lives should be "one size fits all". Other aspects are or should be, on a case by case basis. But I think it would be more practical 4 an inmate 2 have one appliance whereby he can have his entire music collection - and this, because we already can have a music collection - rather than CDs taking-up space in his tiny cell, or his foot locker (if he lives in a dorm setting). They are cumbersome & they get damaged easily. The state could charge a tax on each song downloaded & voila! A brand new revenue stream 4 the CDCR (Cal. Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation).

But hey, I can dream, can't I? Thank u 4 responding 2 my query. And thank u 4 finishing ... "the transcription of my post". Does that mean u went back & read the whole blog? I hope so. And again I thank u, and hope 2 hear from u again. Very much.

JT: I thank u 4 responding 2. I am glad 2 know that at least someone out there in this cruel world - in prison, has I-Pods. Prisons are indeed, creative, inventive places where people will find ways 2 do what it is that needs doin'! Not necessarily bad, right? I agree also that forward, progressive thinking isn't what the prison system is about, and certainly not what it's known 4. Our library right here is also understaffed & underfunded. But, personally, I believe that the possibility of a new stream of revenue is something that the state will willing take advantage of once they realize its viability and how it can be exploited.

Until then I will keep hope alive and continue 2 push-4 it. Hey, J.T., if u could get a patent on a simple stripped-down version of an I-Pod, u could build an empire! Spread the word. Thanks 4 the mail. I do hope you'll keep reading this little blog, which I certainly intend 2 expand. It will in time find its voice - so 2 speak - and become far more interesting. And also, if either of u come across any articles pertaining 2 this subject, please send them to me. Or if there is a way 2 post them, please do.
