Re: Stepdown Program Update and Hearings

Greetings to all. I hope the new year starts off well for you all. As for me, so far it's the same.

But I was served with some paperwork several weeks ago and was told that I, and twenty other prisoners, have been validated and in the SHU since the 1970s were being taken before the DRB board. It's like a committee of prison staff, all top officials, who will review our cases and files to decide if we should be freed from SHU and placed in Step-5 "general population" or in one of the other steps. I supposed to go on Tuesday, the 10th, but I never went. Instead, I was told I'll go next time they come. So me and three other guys are waiting. I guess it will be after the new year.

You know how the public or government staff work. Nothing gets done during the holidays, so we'll see. From what I've heard though, they have already freed quite a few old inmates and they already went to the mainline.

I will be sure to keep you up to date on its progress. But I am not going to get my hopes too high.

On 12/5/2013, Inmate Pina CDCR Number D28079 was issued a CDCR 128B-1, Notice of Classification Hearing by the Departmental Review Board (DRB) for a case-by-case review of his validated Security Threat Group (STG) status, and related STG behavior occurring within the proceeding four years, and placement consideration into the Step Down Program (SDP) pursuant to the "Pilot Program for STG Identification Prevention and Management Plan" (STG Instructional Memorandum dated 10/11/2012).

The DRB did conduct hearings the week of 12/9/13-12/12/13, however, due to the large volume of information that needed to be reviewed and discussed in each case, there was not enough time to see every case on the list. This case will remain "pending hearing" until DRB returns.
