Re: Solitary Confinement
Recently in a hearing in Sacramento CDCR officials said that SHU inmates are not in solitary. He said this because most inmates have a TV or a radio. They were books, they can order canteen items if they have money. Some inmates even have a cellmate.
But what CDCR does not see is that regardless of what a SHU inmate has in his cell, he is still in his cell all day and night, 24/7.
He is cut off from the rest of the inmates. He cannot do what all other prison inmates are allowed to do.
CDCR does not provide us with nothing but our clothes, bedding, and basic supplies. One bar of soap, a small pack of toothpaste, a toothbrush that wears out after a few days, and a roll of toilet paper.
They don't want us to have any type of games, playing cards, or anything to occupy our time. They confiscate anything we make on our own.
I made some playing cards myself from cereal boxes. I also made some dominoes out of milk cartons. I've made a Scrabble board out of a manila envelope and the chips from milk cartons. I even made a Battleship set. But they were all taken as contraband, so they don't want us to have any kind of fun. They want us to be in our cells and stress out. Hoping we will just give up. And debrief.
I can't lie, it gets tough sometimes. Especially without support from the outside.
This is solitary. I don't care if there were ten guys in a cell. They are all in solitary.
