RE: Pelican Bay SHU Maintenance

Yesterday was my shower day. While I was showering, I noticed that the water kept going from hot to cold. Later, we were told that a water pipe had broken and there would be no more hot water.

This is the most expensive SHU in California. When it first opened, we were told it was state of the art, all high tech. Since I arrived here, the power is always going out. Whenever it rains or there are strong winds, the damn power goes out. There is also the water problems. The water is constantly cut off for one reason or another. I've seen the water come out dark brown, and we have to go without water for days.

This is the most expensive piece of crap I've ever been in. They spent like 250 million dollars to build it and, from day one, they've had problems.

I remember how all the doors in units started opening instead of just the cell door they wanted to open. This caused a lot of fights and assaults. It got so bad that they had to redo the entire SHU door locks. It was ragged. If you wanted to get out of your cell to attack someone, all you had to do was pull your door open when you heard another door open. Now they have to check all the doors in SHU every six months. They pull us out and put us in the visiting area while they check each unit.

I woke up having to wash up with ice cold water. I couldn't make a cup of coffee all day.
