"And what of days...?" Sat April 5, 2014

Z Diamond Zion

And what of days where nothing fits?
My soul in shards & scattered bits
My heart like an 808 starts & fits
My grand verbalizer sparks & spits
But my mouthpiece dry, my speakerboxx quits

Feel like I'm on the moon alone
And I can c the rest of u all on my phone
But I'm still a million miles from home
And everybody that loved me already gone
And what of days... when I can't feel my bonez?

I already know this edifice was erected 4 torture
And invasive inquisition n2 minds like mine
A new design 4 the semi-living, its the "soul mortuary" from 9 to 5
The daily grind, lose my mind, take a pill, try 2 find it,
Waste my time, hey shoot yr line, check this fuck
This bitch iz fine... yeah,... but they watchin' me all the time.

And what of days I have no hope?
When the handful of "skittles" ain't enuf 2 cope
And I feel like a sucka 4 givin-up the smoke & tha drank & tha dope
"Iz that workin' 4 ya?", Nope!
And what of the days I send a kite down the [difficult to read] 2 ask a dude how 2 make the best rope?

- Certain In Time -

by michaelyoung

Give me music and laughter on benches and hillsides
Moonlight and sunshine in glasses of wine
My body's imprisoned but my mind swims in visions and daydreams
On planets where new colors shine

We all need hands for loving and holding
To bear-up our pride when it crashes
It's only God's plan for shaping and molding
That's certain in time thru the ashes

Give me children and ball games and long rides on slow trains
To polish the apples of my eye
My body's imprisoned but my mind buzzes and whizzes and daydreams
Of times gone bye

We all need hands for loving and holding
To pull on our coats and straighten our ties
It's only God's plan for shaping and molding
That brings us full circle and it's certain in time

Long, long are the hours I spend
Thinking of you and where I would've been
Long gone, the games we used to play
Can it be I've been blessed that chips have fallen this way?

Give me shadows of concrete, the beat on any street
Cool jazz for my mind, hot funk for my feet
True love for God and all of mankind
These are the things that spin round in my mind

Peace and love forever

Young The Soul Well (of Soul) Tuesday 4/29/14

Zawadi Diamond Zion

I hear a hungry world cryin' out for soul.
I instinctively want 2 feed it.
But Ive been dishin-out bowl fulls of my powerful soul
Ever since I was little and my pot was full.
Nowadays it seems my well-of-soul ain't so deep, and my label and spoon
'Don got all rusty & bout ta break.
I can't seem 2 find nobody wanna
Gimme a lil spice or seasonin' no mo without somebody else passin' judgment on us.
24 yrs is a longtime 2 go widdout spice or seasonin' ya know?
But there was a time, I tell u, when u wouldn't believe some of the bright lights & hard hittaz chasin' me down & all around:
Diamond, diamond, still I rise, diamondz diamondz in his eyes".
And wit' all dat spicey seasoned magic swirlin' round in my well,
'Das how I kept my cauldron-pot'a-bubblin' wit dat sweet, heart freshinin' soul.
And when sombody needed me, I could just appear - fade into the scene -
Pour out a bowl-o-dat love-wisdom-soul
& sssssss then sssss like steam or mist, I vaporize, back into that other dimension,
Back 2 my deep soul well, well... at least I remember.

"They" Said

They said "Ur 2 old, ur 2 tall,
U know it's pride that goes by a fall."
I said "If u had a dream, and I'm sure u do,
And the chance 2 follow it, u'd chase it 2"
They said "U black, u poor, and u ain't exactly straight.
U better take the easy way & go on thru that gate."
I said "With rock & roll country hip-hop-soul
I'll seek my destiny and find my fate"
They said "Well, u'd better choose 1, u kno u can't win 'em all,
Again it's pride that goeth by a fall"
I said "With all these notes inside of me, I'd sink my own boat if I didn't try 2 c
If all these beats & melodies can't do some good in this world I c"
They said "Well... I know a lot of folks out there, and I'm sure you'll find,
You'll only have a solid audience if u sing 4 ur own kind."
I said "Well... there's only 2 kinds of folks I know:
That's thems that kno good music, and them's that don't know.
Now, anyone who likes 2 let music do what it does,
Will listen 2 mine & hear themselves behind the snare-drumz & the fuzz,
And I intend, with all my might, 2 give'em a little hope, a little love & light;
2 remind'em of innocence & standin' 4 what's right,
Strength & endurance, perseverance 4 this fight...
And if I touch just 1 soul at least I dared & was bold
And tried 2 make'em dance & sway 2 this rhythm and I hopefully broke the mold
