The Defendant

There's a place that is way too frightening to see
A place inside of a room where people been, people like me

You seen it all before, watching people face strike 3
You seen it all over the news, and all over your TV

You claim you're a citizen but watch 'em take your rights
Plant evidence at the scene, making you try to fight

Give you a lawyer who is really a dump truck
Thinking they'll fight for you? Ha! Don't press your luck

You got a strong argument, the DA say you got a weak defense
Charge you with a felony with absolutely no damn evidence

Don't know about the crime? Then don't be in the spotlight
You'll be mad at yourself, and you'll cry yourself to sleep at night

They got an all white jury convicting nothing but blacks
The DA and your lawyer is having lunch in the back

The judge in his chambers dripping alcohol all over his robe
Ordering psych evals, watching a psych to pick and probe

Got people in the courtroom that are laughing at your ass
Embarrassed 'cause you're in chains? Aw! Why do you look so sad?

Sheriff deputies around you with barrettas on their hip
Don't think 'bout grabbing that gun; you won't get a good grip

Justice is what we want, but justice you're not gonna get
In a little brown chair shackled up is where these people sit

It's inside of the courtroom, that chair! You'll be sitting in it
In front of a judge, no longer a citizen but a "defendant."
