Grandpa Jackson's Home 1954

a small cabin
build of knotty pine
for migrant workers
set in a row
along the outside
of the riverbank
number 27 painted
on the door
with dirt roads
running between the rows
time to get up
wasting daylight
standing there in bib-overhauls
and flannel shirt
outside the window
the morning was as
black as the coal
he fed the stove
pancakes and eggs
big smile on his face
this is the way
I remember Grandpa's home
outhouse out back
