Mail Call

“MAIL CALL”

In prison “Mail Call” is the highlight of the day! It’s like from the second you wake up one of the first thoughts is “I wonder if I’ll get some mail today?” Then throughout the day you’re just waiting and waiting until mail is passed out.

In my prison mail is usually done around 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. At that time the guards walk down the range and insert mail through your cell if you have it. At that time, the whole range gets quiet, all you hear is the guard’s keys, their footsteps, and the sound of letter sliding in cells. The most depressing part of mail call is to hear all those sounds and the guard walk right past your cell.. no mail (SAD FACE).

Once you realize you won’t be getting any mail, you get sad, disappointed and hope “Maybe Tomorrow”. Mail call is the most exciting part of an inmates day if you get mail...the worst if you don’t. Most of us just want to feel like someone out there is thinking about us or we can reach out to them and escape this place in the process of writing a letter.

I’ve had many days of just seeing the guard walk past my cell at mail call. Today, if you’re reading this blog... write me a kite. If it’s just to say hello, keep your head up, talk about your day, or simple words of encouragement... I want to hear from you at “Mail Call”. Until then let peace be no stranger to your heart and spirit, and I wish nothing but good things for those you love.

Thanks for writing! I hope this brightens your day a little. I know the disappointment of receiving mail. The only mail I ever receive is bills or catalogues which I never look at.
