Welcome to Papyrus Collective
Papyrus Collective (PAPCO) is an organized body of California death row inmates and a growing grassroots community/prison activist network of family, friends, anti-death penalty advocates, and prisoner support groups.
The PAPCO/DRI writers workshop is an important collaboration and beginning for our collective, and for our contributing writers. An outlet for those with relevant and insightful things to say, an online platform that provides a voice to the NEW GENERATION of young black, Latino, and Asian men who are fast becoming the new face of California's dysfunctional death penalty system.
As the cost, politics and legalities surrounding capital punishment continue to be the topic of discussion and debate nationwide. More attention is paid to the wrongful conviction phenomenon arising from faulty eye witness testimonies, police, prosecution, and judicial mistakes and misconduct. The reality that we're all too familiar with can no longer be ignored by the mainstream media. Most media outlets demonize us as worthless "convicted murderers." That's why it's necessary to speak for ourselves.
The consistent efforts and creativity of our contributing writers and coordinators over the past year have produced a number of new projects and topics to add to PAPCO at DRI. The WRITE OR DIE zine project and @GOLGATHA chronicle significant experiences and conversations that are windows into the growing prison movement here on death row and nationwide. California's struggle against capital punishment and for the humane treatment of all prisoners.
This is OUR voice. OUR version. Guilty, innocent, anti or pro capital punishment.
I hope that what you find here (if no place else) will enlighten you about the injustices and humanity that exist behind these walls and within our criminal justice system.
