Dismal Authority

Inmates should not have to refer to the California Department Corrections "Peace Officers" as Sergeants, Lieutenants, or Captains. Such titles are given as a sign of respect, of earned valor as in a combat unit. This is not a military outpost and such words should not be used to identify correctional staff. To the inmate population, it is offensive to refer to them with such a title.

The mentality that is hired here is that of unschooled farm hands or you could compare some to those that they are supposed to be guarding.

These titles also appear in written form in the Title 15 Code of Regulations. It would be a lesser evil if the titles were chanted to Supervisor I (Sergeant), Supervisor II (Lieutenant), or Supervisor III (Captain).
