There's Something Positive in Everything Negative

Through life experiences, I've always noticed no matter how bad or negative a situation or incident may seem, there's something positive about it if we look deep enough. At the time of the incident, you may foresee something positive that can come from it. You may recognize something positive immediately. You may notice it days, weeks, months, or years later. You may never notice it. Just remember, it's there!

Knowing this can help lighten the load of the worst situation. I say this to bring to your attention that this grueling long period of incarceration I've noticed various positive things that's come from it. If only from steeping out of my tight circle of family and peers getting a front row seat of the days of revelation.

When I stepped into these walls, I vowed to never associate with anyone I met after departure. One, because of my already established comfort zone. Two, because I knew I wouldn't meet anyone that I would choose to. During this four year period, I've met two that I would break this vow for. One, an inmate, another a ranking officer.

This is dedicated to both of them.

I never knew you upon arrival
nor your plight,
I do know what you're doing now
is right.

To the many years of one's isolation,
to the many years of another's
occupation.

Aware of your surroundings
knowing when directing,
needed advice to those who
need correcting.

You have my permission to break
this vow.
You may do so at will and I
know you know how.

In life cycles, whatever
shall be,
you're embedded in my poor
memory.
