Thank you for commenting on my blog site. I also think a high capacity ban would help and I've read there's been recent talks in that direction. You're right, if it would save just one child's life it is worth trying. If we don't try, then we are just part of the problem. I feel we as humans need to look at the big picture. That innocent child that was lost before his/her time could have been the one to find a cure for cancer, became a great leader, or the one to finally bring peace unto the world. It might sound naive, but only because society has become desensitized to the possibility. Every person is unique in their own way and every person that is killed before their time is taken away from all our futures. I wrote this poem to express a little of how I feel and to maybe help someone break their own cycle.

Monster

In the shadows lurks a darkness,
Waiting to claim another soul.
Colorblind is this monster,
Devouring all that is young and old.

This monster knows no mercy, forged
From man's very hands.
From its chaos there is no shelter,
Finding victims in rich and poor lands.

It has no need to hide, it is worshipped
Above all gods.
Tens of millions kneel before it, in
The distance a mother sobs.

Another light is extinguished, pure
Darkness takes its place.
The casket is so very small, tears
Fall from a father's face.

On and on this monster strives,
Growing stronger each time it's fed.
Fueled by hatred and ignorance,
Leaving a path of blood and lead.
