Gun Reform

Jose Antonio Hernandez Blog 1-15-13

I haven't posted a blog for a while but I would like to comment on an issue i feel is important. Gun reform. This isn't my first time in prison. I've been sentenced to prison 3 times, all for gun felonies. It seems like every time I get out of prison I want to get a gun because its the only way I feel protected. I can not purchase a gun legally but that does not stop me one bit. Most people i know commit burglaries to obtain guns from law abiding citizens who still have the right to bear arms. This cycle will never stop and it is happening right now as I write this blog. I also believe that as technology and games become more advanced our common sense and moral values become less. Mental illness is at a all time high because as technology becomes more of our everyday life, society as a whole find it harder to disconnect.
If the killing of innocent children at Newtown does not fill the person who hears it with disgust and the want to reform gun laws, then I believe that person does not deserve to own a gun. It should touch ever American at the deepest level there is, the need to protect their children at any cost.
Why would a person need a gun with a 30 round clip? Is there a herd of deer 30 deep that all need to be shot at once? I know looking at it from this side of the fence, 30 rounds always meant to me less times I had to reload and there are no deer in my neighborhood.
I lost my little brother to gun violence, he was shot and died at 19 years old. He was a good kid, but a bullet does not discriminate. It does not care about race, age, gender, political agendas, it's only desire is to take a life. My prayers go out to every family who lost someone to gun violence and to the family right now who will get the phone call that will change their lives forever.

Thanks for writing! I can't help but agree with your views. The only purpose a gun has is to kill and there are very rarely 30 deer that need to be killed all at once, maybe a high capacity ban would work, maybe it wouldn't, but if it would save more children I'm all for trying.
