Another day in T.D.C.
I wonder if these hoes will ever release me?
Every time I come out my cell
these laws think I'm gonna give them hell!
Is it because the way I look,
or because they think I'm a crook.
Nah I don't steal,
that's never been my deal.
I'm known to fight
and maybe pass a couple of kites.
I'm well respected, crazy's my name.
In this prison I run game.
I'm the realist of them all,
me and my homies we stand tall.
A gangster, I move in silence,
respect my mind there won't be no violence.
But at the end of the day,
we all gonna be OK;
as long as you know, it will always be my way!

Hi Misty,
I really liked your poem "Penitentiary Days." I can't imagine waking up in a cell like that. I don't know how you do it. I would go crazy in there. Prison life is harder on a woman I think. Some of those shows on tv make it look like women in prison have it easy, but from what I see online prison is hell for women in some of these states. It would be so interesting to read what it is like for you. What are the rules and your daily routine like, are they really strict? Are the guards and your fellow inmates hard to deal with? How difficult is the lack of privacy, living with so many people?
I hope you get a chance to respond.
Best wishes,
Jen

Hi Misty,
Thanks for responding to my comment. When I posted it I didn't realize that you wrote your poem so long ago. Wow. It sounds even crazier in there than I thought. Privacy takes on a whole new meaning. I had to read some of your comments a few times because I wasn't sure I understood what you meant. When you said you felt like a stripper I didn't get it at first. I thought you were talking about taking a shower or something, then when I reread it I could see that you were talking about being searched. Am I right on that? Sorry, I always thought that inmates were basically searched when they first got into prison or for special circumstances. How often are you ladies made to go though that process? It sounds like it happens all the time. Humiliating doesn't even describe it. I don't think I could ever get used it. Do you have to do that in front of other inmates too? Sorry for all my stupid questions, I guess I was just surprised to hear that it was like that. You must be a strong woman to be able to deal with things like that all the time.
I'm really glad you were able to respond. I wasn't sure that my comment would reach you.
Best wishes,

Jen
