Toss The Key
By: LeVar E. Jones

I'm going back to Cali, hm! I don't think so.
Why? So these white folk can violate my parole?
Gotta start fresh. If I stay, I'll see my fate.
So I must move on and go to another state.
Why go to another city, another county, another town?
It's still California. Their job is to bring me down.
If I stay here and I go back to my city, if I get caught up,
they'll really show me no pity.
I don't care if they claim this state is golden.
I'll get caught up and again, I'll be paroling.
Receive 200 bucks when I again leave these gates.
That's what they give you on your release date.
Gotta move forward, not trying to go back.
Move out of Cali, walk the right side of the track.
Go to Arizona, even though it may be hot.
Girls dress less in a Cali prison. All you'll do is rot.
Probably go to Vegas. There's plenty of destinations.
Messing with Calif, you'll never get off parole or probation.
I think moving will be one of my best decisions,
along with making money, writing poems in prison.
If I stay in Cali, I might as well dig my own ditch
because a conviction will make a lot of white people rich.
That's what they want. They don't wanna see me free.
They wanna slam the cell door and then toss the key!
