THE EXECUTION OF WILLIAM F. HAPP

I knew the man, not the crime. I liked the man, not his crime. I spent a year living next door to him, getting to know him. He said he was innocent, I hear that a lot, so never know who to believe. On the news he professed his guilt, and apologised for killing that beautiful 21 year old young woman. I don't like the crime. When i seen her photo on the news, I thought of my ex-girlfriend Tracy. And I thought if he would have killed and raped Tracy, it would have taken an act of God to stop me from killing him. I know, idiotic vengeance and I would have gotten it. One of the witnesses said that anything less than death would not have been acceptable. But the thing is, we as an independent idiotic individual wanting to exchange murder for murder to fulfill our bloodthirsty vengeful desire, is one thing. But our government who claims civility, human decency and who's held accountable through the United States Constitution is not justified in the inhuman act of exchanging murder for murder. For that act is anything but civilized. We do not rape the rapist. And why not? Because it's not civilized! The American government gets hell bent on killing. This is a sick country that breeds evil deeds. Anything less than murder for murder, just won't do. The thrill of the kill, under constitutional protection. Civility... yeah, America has the same morals as a low life cold blooded murderer. So I agree, when it comes to poor white trash, poor minorities, anything other than murdering the murderer, lowering their standards to that of a low life unethical killer, just wouldn't be the American way. Civilized... yeah, and I'm a saint! One day people will look back on this and see us, America, the same way we look back on the Roman Empire as a bloodthirsty uncivilized barbaric nation. For we truly are a merciless nation, a nation that murders under the mantle of justice the poor, the uneducated, the mentally retarded. We are one nation, under fraud! Bill is dead, his family suffers, what was accomplished? Other than our government sinking to the level of a cold blooded ruthless killer. Hey - it is what it is. Open your eyes.

I knew the man, not the crime. That was 27 years ago. Sad as it is, Bill is gone, a victim of a barbaric vengeful government. We need change, and we need it now. Abolishment is the key.

In peace + love

Hi Ronnie,

I have always been strongly opposed to the death penalty. Murder is murder no matter who serves it up. Proponents would argue that is saves the taxpayers money. This belief is bred by iggnorance as they seem to be unaware of the fact that is takes each individual state, years to carry out executions. Sadly, much of the country chooses to remain blind to the fact that people on death row must spend their years living in what I would consider inhumane conditions, left only to contemplate when their fate will be carried out. Furthermore, the cold, regimented way in which executions are carried out is comparable to pre-meditation. By the time a person is executed, much of the time they are a completely different person than the one who committed the crime. I stand by you in hoping for change, and I do see progress as it is my understanding some states are contemplating ending this process. Try to remain strong, continue to let your voice be heard, and I will keep you and all the others on Death Row in my thoughts and prayers.
