Re: SHU Update
I recently heard that the CDCR has decided to revise some of its step down procedures, one being that they are not going to require that inmates sign a contract before they can advance to another step, and agreeing to do whatever they want us to do.
We did not like this because it was like signing off a deal with the devil. Whatever they late tell us to do, we must do it or be back to SHU. So this is a big step. Sounds good.
Next, they said they are going to start allowing SHU inmates to have almost everything that prisoners out on general population have. This is a very big move if it's true (an attorney is the one who said this is what was discussed in the latest hearings).
But we'll have to wait and see before one can get excited. We've heard it all before and, so far, nothing has been done. I won't knock it until I either see a change or not.
But a very long time ago, this is what it used to be like. We had almost everything the mainline had. Then, in 1982, they got on the rag and began stripping us of all we had. The "tough on crime" bullshit was begun, and they beat us with that stick for the next 20 or 30 years.
Anyways, that's the word. Don't repeat it too loud because you might jinx us. :{
