Loving Our Neighbor
Loving our neighbor is a biblical mandate and the foundation for the Golden Rule, but the phrase is not complete without the last two words: "You shall love your neighbor (as yourself)." This phrase is easier said than performed. I mean, come on, how could you love the guy you saw on the news this morning who killed a family in a drunk driving accident or the local homeless man you see every morning who asks you for spare change as you're pumping gas at the local gas station before heading to work?
If we are to be vessels used for parting out the Father's love on others, we must always be unselfish and non-judgmental in our concern for them. Regardless of how we act or feel, the bad decisions or mistakes we've made, our Father loves us perfectly. Shouldn't we be able to do the same? No matter who it is? Or what they've done?
None of us are worthy of the sacrifice Christ made, yet the Father's perspective is that we are worth it. If He considers each of us that valuable, then we ought to look at others the same way. Experiencing God's love should inspire us to love our neighbors—this includes everyone inside and outside our sphere of influence. Although the ones outside are harder to love. And if it's forced because of a guilty conscience, then the effort is void.
Though we'll encounter people who seem unlovable, like myself because I'm a prisoner, the command or Golden Rule still stands. This is a powerful Evangelion tool. Try it. You might surprise yourself and like, I mean, love it!
