How are you doing? Just a short letter to let you know about me & hopefully catch your interest so we can communicate on a deeper level.
You know the basics already. I'm a real open & active person who likes to stay busy, have fun & keep life interesting. I stay outside a lot when I can & I like to work out & play basketball. They don't give you much to do other than that.
I'm close to a few people in here, but not many 'cause it's not too many I really trust. But I'm real loyal to my family & friends & expect them to be the same. A lot of people like to play games, but I try to steer clear of that. It's just not me. I have family I keep in touch with by writing, talking on the phone & visiting with.
I try to keep busy when I'm in my room. I like to write (obviously), I listen to the radio & read on different type of books & magazines. I have got into the habit of writing poems. Some guys in here have sent them to their mom and wives who like them. So I'm okay at it.
Well, I don't wanna bore you with my first words so I'll cut this short for now. But I hope to meet some new people who are willing to get to know each other more & keep things interesting.
I'm cool with getting to know anyone & taking chances because life is all about chances & seeing where they lead.
I do have some pictures too & I will be putting them on my site so you're not writing to a stranger. But for now, I'm gone. Hopefully, I'll hear from you. Whoever you are...

I hope you're having a great day. Greetings from NY.
Natalie.
I read your kind introduction and I wondered why you didn't get more post.
You deserve better!
I guess you are a nice person, just to read your letter, Brandon. And you have interesting activities too.
Not everybody easily passes here, but I am. I am a penpal to two people here on the list. And write them letters as well.
Let me introduce myself first of all. I am Rita, a Belgian woman of 66,but with a young character and appearence. My two daughters are almost 34 and 35 years old. So that makes that you are younger then my daughters, but that shouldn't be an obstacle, isn't it? :)
My family lived for 7 yrs in America. Utah(3) and Ohio(4).Our two daughters studied 4 yrs in Ohio. The oldest became a dr in Biology and the youngest became a translater: Russian/English/Dutch. Later she got a diploma to be able to teach. She now lives in San Diego,CA, with 2 children. There she teaches Dutch to Americans. She was born in Utah. Our oldest has a baby of 9 months old and lives in Belgium. So do I.
I am divorced in 2007 (my ex and me are still befriended and he stayed in Argentina where we lived for almost 6 yrs) and my fiancé is in a prison in Illinois. After 47 yrs of imprisonment he could finally come out pretty soon. Lets hope!
He is an American and an activist. I shall tell you more about him later.
Brandon,I see you love to write and to write poems as well; so do I!
I also read a lot!
And I love/loved sports.
I hope to hear from you on this blog.
Have a fine day!
greetings from Rita
I was having a surprise today: your friendly letter. :))
And while I read your three letters on the blog here as well. Telling a bit more about yourself and your life in prison.
I am really glad we met before the end of the year; so I can send you my warm wishes,(for the bright days of Christmas and a New Year), you can cherish all year long.
I hope this new year will bring you many oportunities and chances, as you said yourself.
One only has to see them, eh.
Speaking of NC; how are your winters like? Ours was the warmest year since a long long time!Even now we still have mild temperatures. We have 4 distinct seisons. In March -I'm born on a Good friday on the 26th of that month- temps go up. In March I might bring a visit first to Leslie, now 34yrs young and then see George in Illinois, Galesburg.
My plans are not fixed yet, since I will know pretty soon if he is free or not...(???)
I knew George by writing to an inmate to give him 'a window', so to speak.
It happened on my 55th birthday.Yes, 10 yrs ago!!!I then also wrote with Robert(o)-a Mexican-on DR in Texas. They were the first pen pals.
I still do, but along the way I added Johnny, a black innocent man(...), and lately I write now with Kelly(gay)on this blog and via Agnes from the organization Inside Outside, with Rubi, a Mexican on DR, in Texas as well.
I write in Spanish with him.
In Belgium -we are such a small country- people speak usually more then one language.Let me sum up mine.Flemish (= Dutch) is my mother language, In Brussels I was taught at 10yrs of age, French. In high school we were taught English and German. I longed to visit South America one day, so I decided to Learn Spanish.Love that language!;)
As my youngest daughter knew Russian, I took 2 yrs of Russian as well.
And now I'm studying Italian, Brandon.
As you can tell: I LOVE learning languages! In my country we have 3 official languages: Flemish(60% of our people), French(less speak French) and German (few speak it, along the border with Germany).See?
I will send you pictures from here, so you'll see.
George jr(only son; his dad is 90)is in segregation right now:(. In his corr. center(in IL)there are hunger strikes going on.Food is that bad people refuse to eat it!He has a good reputation as he changed things along the way, by being an activist. He told the diet service, but to no results...
He's known mostly everywhere by his reputation.:))
I painted, did some displays in Buenos Aires(Argentina), play the piano, do yoga(many yrs already!) and now poetry and even haiku's.All by all I am an artist in several areas, as you can see.
I love the poem you wrote,Brandon. Can you send some others? Mine are unfortunately in Flemish... I also took some workshops with known poets.2 famous women of 30 yrs young.Their poems are sublime!:o
Well, I have to go now. I wish you a splendid day and keep up that positive spirit of yours, Brandon!
Kind greetings from Rita!
It has been too long I wrote you here. How are you doing? I hope all is well with you?
With what exactly are you busy right now, Brandon?
A lot happened with George! There were hunger strikes in his prison and in his previous one. He wasn't really for it; he thought it didn't really help.
He made a cartoon showing a staff member getting all those types of food and the prisoners only 5 items. They get 28!
When his dad made copies, it was intercepted!
He was one month in segregation for that! Then he was one month back and they threw him again for 2 months in seg!
Because he helped inmates with their legal case. But that was a right they have.
Now they transferred him to another prison, somewhere south of the other one, still in Illinois.
I still have to have his first letter from there. Wonder if he is still in seg?!
I've my birthday on the 26th of March. And will celebrate it first with my friends and the next day with my neighbors.
I wish you all the best and tell me how you are doing, ok?
kind greetings from Rita
