Gun's, cellphones, drug's, handcuff key's, escape paraphernalia
sold and introduced into maximum security prison, which jeopardizes
the security and public safety. Yes there's a problem, the fact that
cellphone's, by "the thousands" every year are confiscated from
prisoners, the fact that guns are found inside maximum security units,
the shooting at Columbia Correctional Institution(CCI). The gun found on
the compound here at Union Correctional Institution(UCI) about ten years ago
is proof that Correctional Officers(CO's) are introducing contraband into
these prisons for financial gain. Risking public safety - putting you,
people in the free world in danger. What can be done? Is there a
solution? The answer is yes. The technology is here to equip CO's with
personalized audio and video devices to record and document their daily
activity to stop CO's from conducting illegal business with inmates in
these prisons. Here's the way it works a con will do something simple,
food, items of clothing, a watch, nothing big. Once that staff member
bites on that, they have them. Then they will go for tobacco products,
drugs, and by this time the officer's in so deep that that the con
presses for cellphones, guns, ammo, etc. What's the CO going to do,
report the con? No, because he's violating the law's, he has made himself
a criminal and he's at risk of now, coming on this side of the bars. If
the CO's finger prints or DNA are on a drug bag, pipe, etc. The con now
has him over a barrel, between a rock and a hard place! Inmates have had gay
inmates that are their boy's have sex with CO's, save the sperm, and get in
on the street and use that to blackmail he CO into bringing in drug's and
contraband. There are many way's that a CO can fall into a cons trap. Personalized
audio and video devices would eliminate sexual contact and the sexual relationship
between the CO and inmate, would stop gang members from having theirs members come
to the F DOC as an employee for the purpose of bringing in contraband. This would
stop the illegal deals that take place between officers and inmates, that
jeopardize public safety, this change is needed. The recent shooting at CCI
is proof that the current system is broken. The only way to fix this is by a
Bill proposal to the House of Representatives for personalized audio and video
recorders to be outfitted on CO's in these prison. The time for this is now, "not
after a tragedy!" I hope to get this pushed before the Florida Legislature. People
out there need to push for this to become a law. This is a life saver and public
safety should be priority.

God Bless You
In Peace & Love
