Day of Torture
By: Renegade
People in society tend to think that prisons in America for the most part are humanely operated places of confinement which provide convicts with unlimited opportunities for rehabilitation.
As you know, there are two sides to every story. The following is a true example.
On May 21, 2012, while assigned to the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, i was housed in a crisis stabilization unit in a suicide precaution cell due to bad [?], that my mother was in the hospital due to chronic kidney disorder and was on dialysis.
I was taken out of my cell in full restraints, leg shackles, waist chains, and handcuffed behind my back. Upon being escorted back to my cell, the two escorting officers began to physically beat me badly. (Note: by my being in C.S.U. these officers are forced to make security rounds every 15 minutes.)
I received a number 6 broken right rib, a severely bruised jaw, the skin over my right eye was slit wide open. I was knocked out. While unconscious, I was sprayed with pepper spray.
I wasn't a threat to security. Nor did I resist. How could I?
This type of treatment towards inmates by prison officials only causes inmates to hate prison officials and also people out in society. Yes society. For turning a blind eye and allowing prison officials free reign on how they run the prisons.
I write this in the hope that I may get people in society to include law makers and law enforcement people such as governors, judges, attorneys, as well as regular citizens to stand up and unite towards a common good. Who knows - it could be you, your kids, grandkids, mothers, or fathers.
All it takes is one small mistake out there today to go to prison.
Prison officials don't discriminate on whom they abuse.
Think about it!

The prison abolition movement is growing, and it's stories like yours that make people think about the PIC. You're not alone!
I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, and through this site, we do realise these incidents occur more regularly than we as a society should accept.
I guess prisons around the world do have various degrees of torture that occur in the name of punishment, and a blind eye is turned. In Australia I believe our prison guards are more accountable than American guards appear to be, still, unfair treatment occurs here too (it would be ignorant of me to think otherwise).
Our prison terms are not on par with your own, which is perhaps a saving grace for our population. We do not exclude people from voting when they're released from prison and I believe we have a much higher tolerance for giving people a second chance at life(perhaps that comes from growing out of a penal colony).
I'm sure your bones have healed, but the mental scars from such treatment will remain with you and I am sorry that you have to carry that pain with you. We as a society will be judged on how we treat each other and I agree, we should be ashamed of ourselves!
Take care Nate!
