The other day I was talking with one of the guards and he asked me if I knew a guy named Oliveras and while I was giving it some thought he said "he had polio as a kid and wears metal braces on both legs." I automatically knew who that was, I've often thought of him over he past 30+ years. I answered "You mean Jerry" I said that's my homeboy, I've known him a long time. So the guard tells me that he worked in textiles and this and that. So I asked him if this is where he died? And he says, that's right he did die. And I asked him what was the cause of death. I heard that he died but didn't know if it was cancer or a drug overdose. He said it was liver disease he thinks from drinking too much.
My boy Jerry, man that's too bad. I told the guard that Jerry was convicted of a crime he didn't commit and got life for it. All these years i'd hoped someone would help him fight that case. If I could of got in the same place with him, I could have helped him get back in court. He didn't deserve to be in prison, not for that.
Jerry was a professional car thief. Man, we used to party as youngsters! Now I sit back and think "So this is where Jerry passed away." I guess he never stopped partying, even in prison. But too much drinking is not good for you. People don't realize it, till it's too damn late
