The topic I'm going to discuss today is a topic that everyone of us knows all too well. In fact, MANY books have been written about it and it's the main reason our society is the way it is today. Our ability, or inability, to deal with it shapes our character. And often greatly influences the character of those around us! As you may have already surmised, I am speaking about anger. A very powerful emotion! And if not properly handled, VERY DESTRUCTIVE!

I would even dare say that most of the crimes that are committed result from some type of anger than the individual feels. This anger I'm sure varies in scope and intensity but what it all has in common i that it is self-centered! And ANY type of self-centered anger is VERY destructive because it disregards the needs and feelings of others! We MUST remember that even when our problems are legitimate it NEVER helps to dwell on them! This only fuels our anger and makes matters worse!

So how do we handle our anger? From experience I have learned that one way is to stop associating with "anger people". You know exactly who I am talking about! We all know people who put the focus on their anger. But sometimes, it is a family member who feels justified in their anger so it becomes not a matter or not being around that person but rather making sure we also have plenty of contact with other people who DO NOT dwell on anger! A counter-balance if you will. It is important to be around people with positive characteristics and habits that hopefully will rub off on us after awhile. (Smile!)

The other way to deal with our anger that I will address in this blog is to learn ways to focus on something besides our anger. I know one thing that has helped me greatly is the importance of not going to bed anger. By focusing on that principle I take steps to make it a reality. I find healthy ways to vent or I talk to the person I feel the anger towards (if possible and ONLY after I have had the chance to calm down and consider my part in the situation). I also realize the dangers of holding on to the anger. In fact, that may be the most important point! Always remember that anger that is not properly handled WILL lead to temper tantrums, fits of rage, fury or even worse!! If vented thoughtlessly anger can hurt others and destroy relationships. And if bottled up inside, it can cause us to become bitter and destroy ourselves from within! Therefore, it is worth the effort to learn how to "be the boss" when it comes to your own anger! Please do NOT let it rule you! Your future and the future of your loved ones is at stake!
