Re: California Election/Proposition 57

I just heard about Prop-57 being passed in the California November elections. My TV went out so I didn't watch it myself. But it passed and that is good news for a lot of us in California prisons.

The new law will strike many of the prior enhancements. And that mean as in my case that they should strike elven years off my sentence. But I am still serving a life sentence. And although the change does not affect that, it will make me eligible for parole now instead of having to wait 10 more years.

So if all goes as I've figured it out, they should be rescheduling my parole date and the hearing date.

I knew Governor Brown would come through for us. It took a long time, but he got it done. Of course, the prisoners who are not lifers will benefit more from this change.

I'm waiting to go to the Law Library to read the bill entirely.

The only think I didn't like was that they also passed a bill to speed up the death penalty. I had hoped it would be abolished. The friends I have on death row will have to continue to sit on the shelf. I know there's a lot of feelings regarding the death penalty, and obvious many want it as the election has proved.
