Exploitation of a Captive Consumer Base: Who is Profiting off TDCJ Inmates?

Grits For Breakfast is an amazing blog here in Texas that provides some of the best coverage when it comes to criminal justice related matters. See: http://gritsforbreakfast.blogspot.com

Although the Grits post is from May 17, 2010, it is very relevant today with respect to the TDCH's commissaries and the approximate 150,000 inmates who spend their money on the items sold there. The mere fact that J.P. Morgan Bank and a company by the name of Caldwell Brokerage has received millions in profit should be reason for concern and questions. The exploitation is made more egregious by the fact that "someone" operating a company out of Huntsville, Texas using the name "Barbco Inc." is responsible for the distribution of several items currently being sold in TDCJ commissaries across the state. Now conventional leads us to believe that whomever is connected to Barbco Inc. at one time or another had some type of connection to the TDCJ; or maybe still has some sort of connection to the TDCJ.

Ponder on that for a while, but only after you've read the following Grits For Breakfast post: "Commissary Economics: Who Profits?"
