PRISON ART EXHIBITION
The exhibition went better than expected today!
About seventy or so visitors came through to look at the works. I had everything mounted on large pieces of cardboard that I'd painted black. The tag plant pitched in and covered the rough edges with a white sticker that created the idea of a frame, and they made a number of tabletop easels to help display them. The building's unit manager purchased a set of black plastic table cloths and snacks for the visitors.
We also printed a program; I'm sending an extra copy in with this post. I'm not sure how BTB will scan it. You could always print out your own if you'd like. I would've written more for the program, but with all of the lockdowns, there wasn't much time to get them printed before the show.
The warden made a comment of wanting us to do the exhibit quarterly instead of annually. Which would work out great for us because maybe people will get used to it at certain times and begin buying some of the works. Right now, I have art pieces of my own that have no buyers or way of finding buyers. They're museum quality, so I know if people knew about them, they would buy them... Original art looks so much better than prints.
The guys really came through, and the staff were impressed. The next show will have even better displays.
I think the biggest surprise was not just how well it all went but that it was put together so quickly amidst institutional lockdowns.
