Things to do...
Remember the sound of your
children laughing,
The sweet tingle of a loved
one's embrace,
Take time to enjoy a
beautiful sunset.
Feel the cool breeze caress
your warm flesh.
Remember to smile every
time you shave.

Don't be afraid to talk out
loud when you're alone.
As the yoke of regrets grows
more heavy with each year of incarceration,
Keep your head held high.
Read as many books as
possible, live another's life of love and
pain.

Take out your flashbulb stolen
moments once a month.
Eat everything on your tray,
including the mystery meat.
Step off the painted line
once in a while, even as the faceless drone
screams at you to comply.
It's a reminder that you're still an
individual.

Tears of joy or sadness
split into your unsweetened oatmeal
is good for you. No matter what the
other prisoners might say.
Remember to laugh.

Find a path of self-awareness or
suicide will become your bride. You will talk
to her more than anyone else.
Remember she lies!

A life lived in a cage can be
escaped.

Close your eyes
open your heart
now
Remember a time when...
