HELP SUPPORT OUT JUSTICE REFORM MOVEMENT
I am now a Inside Organizer for Initiate Justice (www.initiatejustice.org). Who are we?
Initiate Justice was founded, 9/20/16, to build a safe CA free from mass incarceration. We change criminal justice laws. We are made up of incarcerated people, formerly incarcerated people, & people w/ incarcerated loved ones.
Our Goals:
• organize to inform & support civic engagement
• introduce & pass bills & ballot initiatives that aim to end mass criminalization & incarceration
• reduce prison population while investing in health, economic opportunities, & restorative justice in our communities (e.g., see my previous post)
At the moment, we are heavily involved in ACA 6--"Free the Vote Act"--which would restore voting rights to people on parole in CA. This is part of a growing national movement to reverse the long-established strategy of disenfranchising people of color & the poor.
