“FDOC'S AND THEIR UNAPPROVED MASK"
These mask that the FDOC is manufacturing for us inmates, are outside the medical standards and guidelines that are being set for mask. These mask should be made out of 2 ply cotton cloth with breathable material. Where they aren't to course, causing breathing to be labored and a constant struggle. That's in accordance with professional medical recommendations. Our FDOC mask are 50 percent cotton, 50 percent polyester, and is manufactured out of the same thick course materials, that our pants are made out of. Which makes it extremely difficult to breath! Its a labor to breath through this mask, for which they (FDOC) is requiring us to wear 16 to 18 hours a day. The only time your not required to wear this beast of a mask, is when your eating sleeping or showering. Now back here, where we are housed in one man isolation cells, it just makes since, if your not required to wear the mask while sleeping, then we shouldn't have to wear it when we're laying down. For your virtually in the same position. We're also coming up on the summer months, where it'll be brutally hot back here in these cages, with temperatures in the upper 90's with 100 percent humidity. Which will make breathing through this thick fiber, that much more difficult. What we've got here is a serious health and safety issue, due to the struggles of breathing. Technical, there's no reason for these officers to be walking over here by our cell bars, unless their feeding, showering or pulling for a call out, when there's a perfectly structured “catwalk",that was designed, and used for years to make their 30 minute rounds. And it only makes sense to go back to using these catwalks during this covid-19 pandemic. That's what they were made for, keeping distance between staff and inmates. And right now, is the time we should be practicing this social distancing in here. But the main thing we need, is a breathable cotton cloth mask, that doesn't cause us to struggle for each and every breath we take. Which is the case with these 50 percent polyester mask. So please send an email, asking that the FDOC manufacture a proper mask for us inmates.
