Polunsky Continues To Digress

Polunsky continues to disgress

Howdy to all from the polunsky gulag, Tx death row. Its a real sad situation here, went on quarantine lockdown july6th. we are short staffed beyond reasonable standards. The unit is now faced with the spread of coronavirus.
So nobody wants to come to work, or be exposed to it, as it spreads across the dorms, to buildings. The mailroom, commissary, offices administration has been infected. Prisoners are still held in closed quarters. This is insanity in action.
The row has not been hit by the virus as its officers wear mask, we are inside in the airconditioning. We all practice good hygiene, washing things daily. It is amazing - considering the lack of cleaning now. We are locked down so once a day things are cleaned up.
Still we have a new pest - one that carries the virus - RATS!!!!
We are seeing Rats enter the row-coming into our cells at night. its rather disturbing considering they crawl into out of sewers. I heard on the news testing in sewer is a new way to identify local hot spots of the virus.
I see rats crawling in the fences coming across to our building every night. Its no joke! They are known to carry all types of desiese germs, viruses etc.
Complaints have been filed to Headquarters- from free world... over the past week since complaints went in - nothings been done to combat the rats. Having worked as a exterminator in the 90
s I know the measures that can be taken. traps were removed! no poison or bait has been put out. Pest Control run by prison has not arrived on unit to do anything yet.
When a inmate gets bitten by a infected rat then maybe somebody will take notice. Its the worst feeling to be caged, and have the rat coming into your cell. You have no choice in the the matter. What would you do? show it away? Its going to be battle royal if one enters my cell! deeply disturbed in Texas....

Hello Charles
I had the unpleasant experience of having a rat run across my arm as I lay in bed watching tv. It actually scratched my arm as it sped across the bed. I was six months pregnant at the time. I ran to the bathroom and doused the scratch in bleach, the strong kind. U.K. rats, where I’m from, carry Weils disease. It’s their urine that carry’s the germ, and it can be fatal. People who enjoy swimming in rivers are prone to it. And then there’s also the fleas on the rats, and the microbes on the fleas on the rats.
I was conflicted about extermination being a Buddhist. But it had to be done, a baby was coming and if the rat was bold enough to climb up on a bed where it knew a human was, a crib would be an easy target. So we paid a bloke, and they set traps, and put down poison. And we never saw another one.
They are the stuff of nightmares. Smart like us, self preserving and too numerous,
Would the death row authorities be open to allowing a couple of cats to be released to the row. They might be more successful that bait trays, and create some good energy among the men who like cats? Obviously not the dog people!
Good luck with it.

Hi Charles,
I'm so sorry to hear about how things are there. What a horrible situation to try to live in. I hate rats! I remember a place I lived in early in adulthood and I saw rats at night and couldn't sleep at all because I was so afraid of them. Thankfully, we didn't end up living there too long. I was grateful to get out of there. I wonder the same thing as another person, could they release some cats to wonder the row? They could catch them and also bond with the inmates. It might be nice. I know I've heard of dogs in prisons where the inmates would train the dogs. Seems like the cats could be an option. I wrote to you before and I apologize for not writing since then. I enjoyed getting your letter too. My name is Dorothy and I'm from Michigan.

I'm sorry to hear too about issues with the coronavirus. What a horrible situation to be in. I have a few friends in prison and one of them actually tested positive for the virus. Thankfully, he is doing much better. He's been feeling down though because no visits are allowed. I seriously hope this virus gets under control so inmates can receive visitors again. I wish they could do video visits in the interim. I know some prisons allow that...but not the ones here in MI at least not that I'm aware of. I always enjoy seeing your letters even though sometimes it makes me sad to know how poor the situation is.

I'll have to see if I can write further on jpay?

Take care and maybe talk soon.

Hey chuck!
Don’t know if you remember but you wrote me letter a while back, my name is Kate and I’m from Ireland.
It has took me this long to even get something down to send back and for that I apologise.
It’s been flat out here, I’ve bought a house, had a little girl who is beautiful, Isabella. I’ve followed up and watched all that was included in the letter.
I actually lost your address in the move, it was only by chance I’ve stumbled across this. Maybe you’ll see it , maybe you won’t. If you do my mail is being rerouted to my new home so if you drop a line or two I’ll for sure get back to you. It’s 7.22pm here and it’s WET the rain is beating of the windows and the smell of the fields is STRONG pure wet earth! It’s getting cold here now.. although kids can’t look forward to trick or treating! Virus lol it’s wild you cough the wrong way people are almost tackling you to the ground. I had it at Christmas time, I survived lol I feel like I’ve survived the apocalypse. Maybe not quite yet as they’ve locked Northern Ireland down AGAIN .... no nice dinners out of this wee girl 😂

Well I hope you’re well as well can be I suppose!

As I said if you’ve still got my deets drop me a line I’ll sort it out ...

Regards

Kate

Keep on keeping on...

Hello Charles,
I am so sorry that you guys are experiencing this. We are in some difficult times with everything that is going on in the world, which leaves people scared of whats to come. And to have rats around, which like you said, are known to carry all types of diseases, I can't imagine. Hope everything gets better in the future.
