SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT:

In creating the Volunteer Ministers program, LRH wrote: "If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice, and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a Scientology Volunteer Minister and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and low and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance."
20 July 2020
Greetings. I am a California State Prisoner who founded a Scientology Study Group here at Mule Creek State Prison in 2015, though frustrating SP difficulties which continue to date.

In April 2017, My petition to FLAG was delivered to the Volunteer Ministers Center, where Ms. Ernestyna Eichelaub seen the merit of my Scientology Prison Outreach (SPO) postulate, and now we have expanded into a number of prisons around the country.

This is certainly a news worthy VM program which has had a tremendous impact upon prisoners - who all have written wonderful success stories as they complete each chapter of The Scientology Handbook.

I'm sending along my OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER WARDS and COMMENDATIONS, with a great sense of gratitude for the opportunity to study Scientology, and make this ennobling material available to other prisoners seeking their own redemptive rehabilitation. Ms. Eichenlaub has recorded many other Sucess Stories from prisoners studying the Volunteer Ministers Technology, and I am certain that she would be players to share them with you for a news article.

To Whom It May Concern:

On April 2, 2017, Mr. William Robert Goehler K778322 wrote to the Volunteer Ministers office asking for help. Since then I have been in communication with him 3 to 5 days a week, 28 months of working out a system to help inmates to do these courses.

William asked us for help for his SPO (Scientology Prison Outreach program). William and I are in communication so that we could get sponsors to help inmates do courses. William introduces the courses to the inmates in the Mule Creek State Prison Chapel or when the opportunity presents itself.

'The Problems of Work' book has a video he would show to them in the Chapel. He has other videos he would show them that would help inmates take responsibility for themselves and learn skills to improve their communications and how to help others.

I have been in communication via letters and phone calls with William. He has helped get many inmates to do correspondence courses at our Volunteer Minister Center. He also helped get inmates onto other courses delivered at other Scientology organizations such as 'The Problems of Work'. Enclosed with this Commendation are a list of inmates and the courses they completed due to William's assistance and encouragement. He has always shown to me that he is interested in improving conditions where he is. He wants to help inmates so that when they get released, or not, they know how to help one another. Sometimes an inmate needs a little hands-on assistance to understand the courses and I write him and ask him to help that inmate for that course. He has always made himself available to help a student.

There has never been a time in our communications that he hasn't shown high interest in helping his fellow inmates. I believe he wants people to be happy. He completed the Criminon program over 6 years ago and that course helped him help others. He daily nudges inmates to complete their courses and get them graded so they can learn the data and receive their certificate of completions. He has taken the time to send them directly to me when there has been a mail problem.

He also sent me his Logbook for the time he helped inmates in the Chapel prior to meeting me. He has helped over 180 inmates by introducing them to different books, courses and videos per his logbook.

He has also written to his daughter and offered to help her. I know he writes to friends as well and sends them information on how to improve their lives and handle problems.

I can honestly say, if it were not for William's encouragement to these inmates, and me, the list of completions I am attaching to this letter would never have happened. It is because of Willliam and only William that I have been able to help these inmates get through these courses.

I believe the knowledge William has acquired will be a plus in whatever job he has inside Mule Creek State Prison and when he gets paroled. He has learned many Organizational skills because of The Problems of Work course. This will enhance his ethics and production on any job. He has the knowledge and willingness to follow work specifications.

I am enclosing copies of inmates' statements regarding Williams help and their Success Stories.

This is true.

Sincerely,

Ernestyna Eichenlaub

SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT!

23 August 2019

To Whom It May Concern:

It has been my pleasure to supervise William G and several other inmates through Scientology extension courses.
Their lessons demonstrate that the students are becoming more aware of their responsibilities to their families and communities. They appear to become better people.

William Goehler was the first to tackle Scientology and as a result of his realizations about life, he insisted that other inmates also read the books.

I have been a Scientology supervisor for over 30 years. The lessons from William have been as well articulated and in many cases more thoroughly pursued than any other student I know.

Due to Wiliam caring about his fellow inmates and insisting that something should be done about getting Scientology to these men, it is possible for me to assist to make a difference in their lives.

Thank you William.

[a log of prisoners and their progress in Scientology courses]

TO: Ethic Section 10 March 2017

FROM: Joe Riley, Sea Org member Pacifica Base

HIGHLY COMMENDED
MR. William Goehler

I have personal knowledge of the following:

Through his actions to help others; Mr. William Goehler, currently residing at Mule Creek State Prison, has helped dozens of inmates to improve their lives through the study and use of the technologies of Dianetics and Scientology. In the past, he was responsible for getting dozens of inmates onto extension courses of Dianetics and Scientology, and thus changing their lives. In the present, he has formed a group and has been getting inmates Dianetics and Scientology; including the Way To Happiness. This has resulted in dozens of success stories and changed lives. Recently, one such individual was released from a California State Prison after being in prison for 22 years and credits Scientology and Mr. Goehler with helping him change his life, get off drugs, get others off drugs and to be released from prison and start to lead a productive life and is currently on lines at an Ideal Organization of the Church of Scientology. Mr. Goehler was responsible for this and started this individual studying Scientology about two years ago.

Another person from Mr. Goerhler's group, had been released over a year ago and the first thing he did was to visit a Church of Scientology and was reportedly still doing well.

Mr. Goehler helped to found a Scientology study group in prison which is called Scientology Prison Outreach (SPO); which continues to grow at Mule Creek State Prison.

This is true,

Joe Riley

To Whom It May Concern: 14 June 17

I have known Mr. William Robert Goehler (CDCR# K-77832) since October 2013. I have met with him personally at Mule Creek State Prison in the course of doing some volunteer work there. I have corresponded with him and have spoken with him many times over the phone.

Although sentenced to life in prison, I recently became aware that Mr. Goehler was being considered in some fashion for parole. I thought that I should write something about him for his case-file.

I chose to represent my knowledge of Mr. Goehler in terms of his search in the field of religion, as that has been the main subject of my association with Mr. Goehler. Before you dismiss this as irrelevant; please hear me out.

It is my contention, and one which has been well established in the annals of human nature; that Mr. Goehler's search for self-awareness in terms of religion has everything to do with his improvement and consequently his propensity to commit crime again, or not; and his "dangerousness" to the environment around him or not.

The relationship I've developed with Mr. Goehler was very connected to the religion of Scientology. The word Scientology means KNOWING ABOUT KNOWING, or SCIENCE OF KNOWLEDGE. Our programs in the area of criminal rehabilitation have reduced recidivism from 70-80% in some countries to zero or very small numbers.

At the present writing, religion is perhaps not seen by some as being relative to the subject of criminal rehabilitation; however, I beg to make a point here. If we define religion as below, then it has a great deal to do with whether a criminal could be considered to be charged and worthy of parole:

"In a few words, religion can be defined as belief in spiritual beings. More broadly, religion can be defined as a system fo beliefs and practices by means of which a group of people struggles with the ultimate problems of human life. The quality of being religious implies two things: first, a belief that evil, pain, bewilderment and injustice are fundamental facts of existence; second, a set of practices and related sanctified beliefs that express a conviction that man can ultimately be saved from those facts."

Furthermore:

"When religion is not influential in a society or has ceased to be, the state inherits the entire burden fo public morality, crime and intolerance. It then must use punishment and police. Yet this is unsuccessful as morality, integrity, and self-respect not already inherent in the individual, canon the enforced with any great success. Only by a spiritual awareness and consultation of the spiritual value of these attributes can they come about. There must be more reason and more emotional motivation to be moral, etc., than threat of human discipline."

I am certain in my evaluation that Mr. Goehler has been genuine in his search for real answers to the questions he has been facing in his life and how he wound up incarcerated. I am also very certain about what I have done to help Mr. Goehler in this regard and how he has manifested the desire to help others using this knowledge; and how he desires to continue improving himself and continue to help others should he be paroled. To my personal knowledge he has helped several inmates to be able to study things they were trying to learn so as to improve themselves. He has also helped other inmates with trying to understand themselves and where they went wrong. The ability to help is most certainly a test of sanity of on type or another. Several inmates who participated in these studies had gotten out and reportedly continued those studies. One such individual (Joe Bush CDCR # J98680) was released (Currently transitioning in a halfway house) relatively recently and I have been in communication with him almost daily. Mr. Bush was incarcerated for 22 years before his parole (12 years early) and is now doing very well in readapting to life in the community. Mr. Bush continues with his affiliation and study of Scientology and continues to help people in the community. Mr. Goehler had introduced Mr. Bush to these studies while at Mule Creek State prison. In addition, Mr. Goehler had been active several years ago to get dozens of other inmates to study and improve themselves. some of this study includes the knowledge of how to study anything, the nature of man, ethics and moral codes and how to abide by them.

Ther is no false representation herein or by Mr. Goehler to myself. I am aware of his faults, but nevertheless od not feel he is a danger to anyone; especially now that the has a purpose to help others and better the society around him. I am not naive in these opinions of the possibility that something could go wrong; but I a willing to help Mr. Goehler as much as possible should he be paroled and certainly he seems to deserve the chance to redeem himself. I will continue to assist him in any way that I can regardless.

TO: WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
From: Joe Bush
16 July 17

This message is for Mr. William Goehler's (K-77832) parole hearing and/or case file.

I was recently released from prison on February 13th of 2017, after serving 22 years in California state prisons (All level 4 prisons the whole time I was in). I was involved in riots and five SHU (Secured Housing Unit) terms. My last one was an indeterminate Pelican Bay SHU. I decided I wanted to turn my life around, but found myself still dealing with conditioned behavior, and wishing I had some way to deal with these conditioned behaviors, these thoughts, emotions and actions that I've done so often in my life. Like getting extremely upset with certain things that would happen in life and not being able to control them. In the past; I had always used drugs, alcohol or violence to deal with these problems. I was trying to find a new way to deal with these things when I met William Goehler at Mule Creek State Prison.

Mr. Goehler asked me to attend a religious program he was facilitating called "Scientology (Which has to do with knowledge and practical solutions for life) Prison Outreach", a program at Mule Creek State Prison. I started attending this group there and learned too to deal with adversity, to deal with my condition, my behavior and I helped him facilitate the program. We studied this methodology and I began practicing it in my life more and more. My life changed because of this, and because of Mr. Goehler's help; I was able to get out of prison 12 years early.

I owe 12 years of my freedom to Mr. Goehler, and in fact, if it wasn't for him and what he did for me; I wouldn't have the ability that I have now in society to help others. I now manage a company and make $1,000 a week. I'm able to plan ahead in both my business sense and in regards toa family, which I would like to have in the future. I'm able to help others because of what he taught me. I'm able to care about life now where I didn't before. I'm able to see people as people and see community as something I'd like to participate in and belong to and help, because of William Goehler. My life has changed for the better, and people all around me see it. I just wanted to thank him by sharing this with the parole board. MY. Goehler is an incredible person who has changed my life and I can't thank him enough.

Best Regards,
Joe Bush

Highly Commended
Mr. William Goehler

Mr. Goehler initiated actions to improve things in his prison, Mule Creek State Prison, but requesting that The Way to Happiness Public Service Announcements be played on the prison TV. These PSAs encourage and educate on how one can take actions to increase one's own happiness and the happiness of others by common sense actions like keeping one's word once given and following the law.

While it took a while, with Mr. Goehler's persistence, all of these PSAs were played for all 4000 inmates at his prison.

This is an example of taking responsibility for the well being of others. Very well done and I hope you continue your actions.
